party theme: wine & cheese

Now that the wedding is over and we are getting back to normal life, I am very anxious to use all of our lovely new gifts from the wedding. People must really know me because we were gifted all the cheese and wine items we had registered for! We are the proud owners of cheese markers, a cheese dome, beautiful copper-handled cheese cutters, a wine decanter with strainer and a wine opener set in a wood box with our last name engraved on it. Not to mention, we also received beautiful wood and ceramic serving pieces that will coordinate perfectly with the cheese dome, etc (and a large hurricane just like in the picture!). I cannot wait to throw a wine and cheese party, but the problem is Mike plays nearly every weekend night which makes it difficult to plan a get-together. Sounds like I may have to plan a girls' night party. :)

home office

Mike and I are definitely taking to nesting into our home quite well. Every weekend since being back from our honeymoon, we have taken on different projects around the house, but we still have so much left to do. I have been thinking a lot about my home office lately and how we want to set it up. Its in pretty bad shape right now...still has random wedding items all over the place. I spend over 40 hours a week in that space, so I'd love to make it feel more inviting and use the space more wisely. I love the office in the picture above. All of the furniture we currently have in there is white and the walls are tan (we've tried various colors of blue/turquoise, but they all made it feel like a baby's room). I love all the boxes, magazine racks and bulletin boards. Our first step will be cleaning the room so we can rearrange it. Stay tuned for pictures and updates!

alphabet wall

I came across this alphabet wall the other day while catching up on my google reader and I just love it! Someday when we have kids (not anytime soon), I'd love to do some wall art like this.

As hard as I tried to find it again, I couldn't find the link where I saw this image, but I couldn't resist sharing. So sorry for the lack of credit!

wedding rehearsal and dinner

The day of our rehearsal (April Fools Day) was an incredibly hot day! It was the first day of the year to hit 100...this was incredibly worrisome for our wedding the very next day. Our coordinator and fill-in officiant were great though and kept things moving quickly. After running through rehearsal, everyone headed over to Tia Rosa's restaurant in Gilbert for dinner (and shade).

We wanted the rehearsal dinner to be more casual than the wedding and since we were having it at a Mexican restaurant, we went with that theme. We hung up paper banners, made paper flowers in El Pato cans for centerpieces and used limes for the name card holders. My dad brought in red linens and we used Mexican blankets as table runners. Everything looked great thanks to my Mom and Mike's tia Holly who managed the setup.

Our bridal party, close family and out-of-town family was invited to the dinner, so we thought it would be a great idea for them to get our "guest book" started. We ended up doing a wedding tree instead of an actual book – everyone seemed to love stamping their fingerprint on the tree! More to come on that project.

The food was delicious! The manager, Clay and his team did a fantastic job of serving drinks, making sure the food was ready in time and cleaning up. We had a Mexican version of meat, potatoes and corn – it was a hit!

After dinner, the staff brought out my wedding gift to Mike – a Phoenix Suns groom's cake! Mike loves the Phoenix Suns, basketball and cake so I thought this would be the perfect gift. A friend of mine from high school made and delivered the cake. She did such an incredible job, everyone was so impressed with it!

We also made speeches at the dinner honoring our bridal party, parents and grandparents. Both of our parents got up and said a few words about us along with Mike's friend and groomsman Ryan. We felt so blessed that night to have such great and loving friends and family around us!

Mike's niece, Sophia and my nephew, Preston became good friends that night! They are too cute for words.

Everyone had a great time getting together with friends and family from near and far! (Pictured: My cousin's daughter from Minnesota, my cousin from Montana, my niece and my nephew)

welcome bags

Here we start the beginning of the wedding recap posts! One thing my mom and I spent quite a bit of time on were the welcome bags for out of town guests. We wanted to be sure to have something ready for those guests who traveled from far away to celebrate our wedding. Inside we included Kilt Lifter beer from Four Peaks, Arizona Iced Tea (even though its made in New Jersey...strange), Cerreta's Chocolates, snacks, maps and a cd of music from our wedding. We also included a guide to our favorite restaurants like Pizzeria Bianco, Oregano's, Joe's BBQ and others. It also gave directions to my parent's house for the lunch on Sunday along with contact information in case they needed anything that weekend.

I made custom labels for each bag with their name on it and we filled it with blue tissue paper so it felt more like a gift. One of my favorite items in the bag definitely has to be the Cerreta's chocolates. It is a local company that has been in business for years here in Glendale. I remember being really young at my grandma's house and she always had the green mint Cerreta chocolates in a dish in the living room.

We also hosted a rehearsal dinner the Friday night before and invited all of our out of town family. It was so nice to be able to spend that extra time with them and have them involved in the entire weekend. Pictures to come from that!

welcome home

Well hello there, we're back! Obviously a ton has happened since the last post in March. We had our rehearsal dinner, got married, saw tons of family, went on our honeymoon and when we got back, we celebrated Mike's Nana's entrance into her eternal home. I can't wait to post all about the details of everything from the welcome bags to the surprise at rehearsal dinner to the wedding details that I kept a secret to the incredible honeymoon we had. At the wedding in the above picture is Mike singing to me. That was the biggest surprise for me from the whole weekend! He had been practicing with his band without me knowing, got on stage and serenaded me with Michael Buble's song "Everything". It was beautiful to say the least!

And while we're on the topic of the wedding, we just want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our friends and family for showing us so much love and support. Never in my life have I feel so loved and I know Mike feels the same. To all our vendors, WOW...you are definitely the best in your business! Everything was absolutely perfect and ran so smoothly. Our parents, Mike and I are still receiving compliments on how amazing the food was or how great the band and DJ were or how the photographers and videographers seemed to just be everywhere at just the right moment and really just how perfect everything was. We are so happy that our guests had a fabulous time!

While we loved every minute of our wedding weekend, time with family and our honeymoon, we are very excited to begin normal life and get settled into our house. Today is our first 'normal' day back, but normal is now not normal anymore. Normal is a million times better than the old normal! Everyone told me being married doesn't feel any different, but it is for us. We love each other more today than we ever thought possible. We know there will be difficult times, but we are loving married life and are ready to start our lives as husband and wife day after day after day after day.

I promise there will be more posts later on every detail! I will post on everything from the wedding itself (once we get our professional pictures) and we will post our wedding trailer video in the coming weeks too. And now that we are getting into a new normal life, we will be posting about our adventures as newlyweds. We will also be updating the entire look of this blog once we have more time (work is crazy right now for me!).
