The countdown is on...

We got the call yesterday that we have been waiting months for. They set our closing date for our new house! We will officially be homeowners (therefore, not homeless wanderers anymore, yay!) in 35 days from today. While we love our parents and have had so much fun this summer spending our time with them, we are so ready and excited to have a place to call our own again. It will be a challenge to get used to cleaning 3100 sq ft instead of 300, but we're ready. :)

It's kind of hard to believe that we'll be able to move in that soon since last time we were there they were just putting insulation in, but they were very hesitant to give us a close date until they said they could know for sure. It really has been a bit of a rollercoaster with the closing date. At first we wanted to close mid-August to line up with my free time at work, so they delayed sending for permits to hit that timeframe. Then, the market got crazy and they couldn't find enough workers so they moved our estimated date to September 27! Now they gave us the official word that it is in the last few days of August. For most people, the weekend that they move isn't based so much around a work schedule, but since I work entirely from home, it really did matter for me. I have a very hard time concentrating when things aren't really set up and somewhat unpacked. We're so thankful that I'll be able to take an entire week off of work.

Funny story, my family has always seemed to move in early September, on my brother's birthday (I believe we've done that twice!). Ironic how our moving weekend falls on his birthday too, ha!

House Progress: July 19

The lathing (white stuff on the outside) is almost done and they are getting ready to do our framing inspection! We had our walk through on that day and were able to modify a few of the outlet, fan and light locations. We also got word that we will be closing in less than two months!

House Progress: July 14

This post will be brief because we have a very busy day and week ahead of us, but we wanted to get these pictures from the weekend posted about our progress. They have started the lathing (the white stuff on the outside of the walls) and are almost done with electrical, A/C and plumbing. We have our first walk through this week to review all those items. So excited about the progress that has happened in the past few weeks!

This is me standing on one corner of our yard and Mike on the opposite corner so we could get a feel for how big the yard is. We're not used to having that much backyard!

4th of July Celebrations

We had a great 4th of July this year with family! It was a strange day in Phoenix, cool (for July!), rainy and cloudy. Not exactly what you think of for 4th of July, but we loved it. By night the sky had cleared and we went swimming, watched fireworks from the backyard and played with sparklers.

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!

House Progress: July 1

This last week the windows were installed in the house and plumbing and A/C has been started. It's pretty exciting to see the windows go in...although, pretty much EVERY step in this process has been exciting! We can go in the rooms and really get a better idea of how they will feel. You see those three windows on the first floor behind the patio? Those are three of the six windows in my office! I'm pretty sure that may become one of my favorite rooms in the house.

Here's a close up of the patio and the office. There are three windows on the south side, two on the east side and one on the west side which looks on the the front door part of the patio. All the windows open (which we didn't know until yesterday), so I can have them all open and feel the breeze coming through. Or, I can work out on the front patio. We're so excited about this part of the house, feels like a totally separate area which is something we needed with me working at home and having our own business. I have a feeling we'll appreciate this separation the most when we have a little one running around. :)

Another one of my favorite areas will for sure be the kitchen. Its hard to tell with just the foundation and framing, but this room is huge! The island looks miniature, but its all pretty big and perfect for entertaining. I absolutely love the window with a big sill for plants and the sink below, the walk-in pantry and of course that massive island. Oh ya, did I mention a double oven?! Stoked for that...I just might be hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year for my family!

Here's the view of the back of the house. Our covered patio is pretty small, we just didn't want to spend our upgrade money on paying to extend it and then cover the kitchen window and lose that precious sunlight. We plan on covering the patio floor with pavers and extending the pavers out in front of it and to the right and back. Lots o'pavers! The covered part will really be more of an entry area to the outdoor space. We'll have a lounge area by the (eventually) fire place and a dining table with an umbrella near the (eventually) outdoor grill/kitchen. I'm thinking about having a garden to the left of the patio, under the living room windows. Speaking of that area, we're SO glad we added the 4ft living room extension. Not only for the space it adds inside, but also the dimension it adds to the back of the house.

Looks like the next step is placing the shingles on the roof to get that weight to settle in. Everything is coming along so well it seems!
