Daddy Mike

One thing that I'm really looking forward to in August is seeing Mike with our baby. I've always known he would be an incredible father to our kids and I just can't wait to see him in action with them. In the pic, Mike his holding our nephew Cruz. We were babysitting him a few weeks ago and Mike started singing to him and all of a sudden, he was asleep. It was amazing and so sweet! He is really loved and adored by every single one of our nieces and nephews. Kids are just drawn to him and he is so good with them!

Mike and his brothers have a really amazing dad and Mike has definitely taken after him (in looks too!). Their dad stayed home with them when they were younger and worked part-time while their mom was teaching. We will be in a similar situation when baby arrives and I know during his "daddy" days, he is going to be great at it! Even though baby hasn't arrived, he has already done so much to care for me, baby and our house since I've been out for the count for a while.

I'm so blessed to be married to such an amazing man!

Hello 2nd Trimester!

I can't believe the second trimester is finally here! We found out we were pregnant at 4.5 weeks (speaking of, guess I should do that post, hmm) and ever since 6 weeks I have had crazy nausea, fatigue and sickness so getting to 13 weeks seemed like forever! Not to mention the worry of everything going ok and waiting until 10 weeks for that first appointment. We're so excited to reach this milestone, not only because it means we are officially in the "safe zone", but also because I am supposed to be feeling better! The nausea has actually tapered off over the past week, but suddenly yesterday and today my energy levels are back (at least during the day...I'm still exhausted and ready for bed by 7pm!).

The other exciting part of this trimester is watching that belly grow! It has felt a bit surreal up until we announced and I started getting a bump at 12 weeks. Of course, that bump is a full blown belly at night,  but it's really fun waking up and seeing a bump and knowing it's not just fat/bloat/gas. I'm sure no one in public knows I'm pregnant, but I still have fun showing it off and holding it. :)

I'm also really glad my phone's camera decided to blur out my toes. My mom and I are treating ourselves to pedicures tomorrow and I am in desperate need. I don't even want to tell you how long it's been, I just couldn't stand the smell of nail polish or remover!

Nursery Ideas

Lately we've started thinking more about the nursery and how we will lay it out and decorate it. We will be finding out if Baby B is a boy or girl (there's no way I could be that patient and wait until they are born!), so we won't be doing much decorating until then, but I have definitely been pinning ideas. I always knew I wanted the crib and furniture to be white, but I thought I'd want to use bright, cheery colors with a modern feel. For some reason after we found out we were pregnant, my mind completely changed and I decided I wanted soft, peaceful "baby" colors with more of a traditional feel.

First, the crib. We've already had drama in this area and I won't expand too much on it, but we bought a crib during the Target baby sale (it was an awesome deal!), brought it home, opened it up and were completely disappointed in the quality. We decided we don't want to put our baby in a crib with chalky paint that rubs off and splinters on the bars, so we returned it. I think that made us realize that it's worth it to spend a bit more on the crib and save in other areas. We looked around a bit at other cribs and noticed how nice and smooth the finish is on them and realized that this is what we had to look for. I fell in love with a Pottery Barn Kids crib and will be taking Mike there soon to check it out. It's so beautiful, sturdy, great quality and fits the style that we are looking for.

For the colors of the room, I have a few ideas in mind and images to use for inspiration. For a girl, I'd like to do soft peach colors, tiny bits of pale coral/pink, gray, tan, brown and white.

If we have a boy, I'm looking at colors that are more gray/blue with touches of yellow, or maybe orange.

We'll have to wait to start shopping and planning until the end of March when we find out! For now we'll keep researching collecting basics that are gender neutral. :)

Bump Watch: 12 weeks

How Far Along: 12 weeks

Size of the Baby: Large Plum

Sleep: Still so exhausted, getting decent sleep at night, but waking up 3-4 times per night

Best Moment of the Week: Announcing our pregnancy to everyone!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Lots of smells, cooking, raw meat, avocados

Any cravings: Sweets (thanks mom for the yummy gf baked goods!), lots of citrus

What I'm looking forward to: The bump looking less like I ate too many donuts and more like a true bump :)

What I miss: Not feeling nauseous

Nursery: We bought a crib and returned it because it was damaged. Looking around at the basics, but not really deciding anything until we know if Baby B is a boy or girl

So I'm pretty sure I just look like I just ate a big Thanksgiving dinner, but this is baby so far! This is the first week I've actually felt bigger without it being an insane amount of bloat (maybe there's still some there...). I'm still not feeling the greatest, so please excuse my not so done up look. :) Lucky I still feel comfortable in my regular size stretchy pants, everything else is getting a bit uncomfortable. I'm using the hair tie method with me jeans for as long as I can. Searching for knit maxi dresses and skirts as the weather warms up and the belly gets bigger.

Also, this background bores me and I realized how much my skin color blends in to the wall! Maybe we'll search around for a better background...or switch it up as we go. :)

Our Valentine's Announcement

We are so very excited to finally announce that we are expecting our first child this August! I've been pretty silent on the blog lately because of this. First, because I have a hard time keeping a secret and didn't have much else to talk about, but also because we literally were doing nothing. I've been at home exhausted and nauseous for about a month and a half. I'm finally feeling a bit better and getting more energy, so hopefully I'll be able to post more.

Our first appointment was at 10 weeks (two weeks ago). They tried to hear the heartbeat on the doppler, but the doctor said it was just too early. They were going to let us go and try again at 14 weeks, but we just needed some kind of reassurance that we do have a little bean in there! They got us in to the ultrasound room and let us see our baby and gave us a few pictures. He/she was flapping their arms and legs around and the heart was beating at a very strong rate of 171bpm. I thought we would be more emotional in that moment, but we both were in such awe. The above pic looks a little blurry, but you can definitely see the head, legs and at least one arm. Is baby even waving at us? :)

We plan on starting some belly pics now that we're at 12 weeks and there is finally a tiny belly to take pics of (or is it bloat? hard to tell). Looking forward to that 2nd trimester starting here soon!
